Belgium, 31 May 2022 – With an investment of €2 million, Van Moer Logistics is a pioneer in safety in the workplace. The collaboration between Van Moer Logistics and Rombit is the first in the sector.

The solution is being rolled out on a large scale in the logistics sector for the first time across more than 300 forklifts at 10 locations. Van Moer Logistics is therefore the first logistics service provider in the Port of Antwerp Bruges to make an investment of this size with Rombit.

Investing in people

Evert Bulcke, COO Rombit: “The storage and distribution sector is experiencing strong growth. Unfortunately, the number of serious accidents is also growing. New homegrown solutions combine coaching and technology. We are very pleased that Van Moer Logistics is investing heavily and is thus pioneering worldwide. Our country is once again on the logistics world map.”

Over the next two years, Van Moer Logistics’ forklifts will be gradually equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) technology to optimize productivity, safety and quality in the workplace. Not only do we ensure a safer working environment, we also invest in on-the-job training. Rombit’s solutions analyze driving behavior and coach the driver to work more safely. In addition, the driver and pedestrian are actively warned if a forklift gets too close.

“Rombit’s technology avoids forklift accidents”

Jo Van Moer, Founder and CEO Van Moer Logistics“We are convinced of the positive effect this technology will have on our operations. It is an efficient way to guarantee safety in the workplace and to encourage the personal development of our employees”.

Monitoring and coaching

Rombit’s anchor is attached to the forklift, and registers the parameters of the vehicle as well as dangerous and conspicuous driving behavior. This data is simultaneously forwarded to the DriverBox and the Rombit platform. The DriverBox helps the driver by immediately giving a small signal on the forklift itself. On a monthly basis, a coach will go over the generated data together with the driver and provide further guidance where necessary.

Safe driving is sustainable driving

In addition, the parameters of the vehicle are used to monitor its maintenance level. Adjusting the driving style also provides economic benefits. An optimized driving style leads to less maintenance and energy savings of up to 25%.

Collision prevention

Driver coaching goes hand in hand with collision avoidance. The Rombit wearable communicates via ultra-wideband technology with the Rombit anchor on the truck. If a certain distance is not respected, an alarm will sound on both devices. In this way, a notification can be sent in time to both the pedestrian and the driver and a possible accident is avoided.
